What are Dental Implants?
Dental implants are small titanium posts that are surgically embedded into the jawbone. They are designed to support a variety of custom restorations, including crowns, bridges, and dentures. A superior restorative option, dental implants and implant-supported restorations replace the entire structure of a missing tooth, from root to crown. After fusing with the jawbone, the implant becomes a permanent part of your smile, providing you with a stable foundation for fixed or removable prostheses.
For dental implants to be successful, patients must be in good oral and overall health. To qualify for this procedure, patients must also have sufficient jawbone tissue to support dental implants. If you have suffered bone deterioration due to tooth loss, we can perform a preliminary bone graft procedure to restore your candidacy.
Our team can work with you to create an individualized treatment plan that is tailored to your needs and preferences. To ensure your comfort throughout your procedure, our office is equipped with overhead TVs and Pandora® Music. To put you at ease, we can also provide oral conscious sedation.
After administering a local anesthetic, your doctor can make a small incision in the gums. He can then create a pilot hole in the jawbone and carefully secure the dental implant in place. To ensure proper healing, your doctor can then close the incision with sutures and provide you with a temporary restoration.
Recovery and Custom Restorations
Over a period of three to six months, the post will fuse with the jawbone. During this process called osseointegration, the implant becomes a fixed part of your smile. Once your gums have fully healed, you can return to our office for a minor second surgery, in which we can attach the abutment, or connector piece, to the dental implant. This device will attach your new restoration to the implant post.
We use only the highest quality material at our practice to help patients achieve long-lasting results and a beautiful smile.
After two weeks of healing, we can take impressions of your smile, which will be used to create your custom-made crown, bridge, or denture. We use only the highest quality material at our practice to help patients achieve long-lasting results and a beautiful smile.
The Advantages of Treatment
By providing a strong base for restorations, dental implants provide patients with increased comfort and stability. Implant-supported restorations will never slip out of place when you eat or speak, so you can feel confident in your smile. In addition, dental implants and prostheses are designed to look and feel natural, helping to improve the overall aesthetics of your smile. Perhaps most importantly, this treatment helps to improve long-term oral health. These posts stimulate the jawbone, guarding against additional bone loss and preserving your facial structure.
